HE was a highly successful headteacher and then worked as an education advisor.
But now Michael Shew, who was at the helm of Acland Burghley School in Tufnell Park for a decade, has turned his hand to writing fiction.
More than 70 friends and ex-colleagues packed Owl Bookshop in Kentish Town Road last week as Mr Shew – who left Acland Burghley nine years ago – spoke about his first novel, Lessons In Lying.
The school-based thriller was “most certainly not” based on his own experiences, he said.
“For me it was very important to stress the events in the book bear no relation to my experiences as a head – and the characters are not my ex-colleagues,” Mr Shew said.
He is now planning his next novel. Lessons In Lying is available online and can be ordered at bookshops. The Owl has copies in stock.
