THE full-length mirrors and ballet barres of a world-renowned drama school are set to be torn out as the building is transformed into an office block.

Italia Conti, a theatre and performing arts school that counts supermodel Naomi Campbell, singer Louise Redknapp and actress Sadie Frost among its alumni, left its Goswell Road headquarters for a new building in Woking last year.

On Tuesday night the Town Hall’s planning committee voted unanimously to transform the now-vacant school into an office block, which will be leased to co-working company Spacemade.

The building, originally designed as an office block, is returning to its original use.

The new landlords, Wittington Investments, will lease part of the ground floor to the council for affordable working on a reduced “peppercorn rent”.

The landlord plans to splash between “£8-10 million” on retrofitting the current building, which will include work to “open up” the ground-floor level with large glass windows and doors.
