FOUR men are in custody after a car “mowed down” three people outside a pub in Essex Road last night (Saturday).
The road remains on lockdown after the incident which occurred just before 11pm outside The Old Queen’s Head pub, where a group of revellers had gathered outside.
Scotland Yard said the occupants of the car fled the scene on foot after the crash. Police, assisted by armed units, recovered two knives at the scene, one inside the car and one found near to the car.
The London Ambulance Service attended and three people – two men and a woman – were taken to hospital for treatment to their injuries. Their injuries are not being treated as life threatening, the Met said.
Witnesses took to Twitter to share their accounts of what happened.
One user, Optimus J Prime, tweeted: “I just heard and saw this where I am and saw them chase someone down, looked like reckless driving to me not terror.”
Jade Barlow shared a few images of the scene and said: “An abandoned knife and a handful of mowed down casualties.”
Four young men, aged between 17 and 19, have been arrested on suspicion of a variety of offences including GBH with intent and possession of knives. They remain in custody as the investigation by Islington Police continues.
The crash is not being treated as terrorism related.
