DETECTIVES are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a 75-year-old man died following a late-night incident in Holloway.

This week they released CCTV images of Fredi Reviro a short time before an assault on Thursday evening from which he did not recover. He died in hospital on Friday.

Three teenage girls, aged 14, 16 and 17, none of whom can be named, were held on suspicion of GBH but have now been charged with manslaughter.

Police had been called to Seven Sisters Road near Nag’s Head at around 11.35pm last Thursday.

Detective Inspector Devan Taylor said: “Fredi Rivero was a much-loved father, whose family are devastated by his death. I also know his death has also shocked this tight-knit community.

“If you remember seeing Fredi or have any information which could support with the investigation, please contact us.”

The girls who were arrested last week are being held in custody ahead of an appearance at the Old Bailey on March 31. People have been warned that it would be contempt of court to share their names on social media. In one local Facebook group an administrator warned members would be banned if they continued to spread speculation.

A fundraiser has begun to pay for a funeral for Mr Rivero

Under-18s are not named in court proceedings unless a special order is made by a judge.
Mr Rivero, thought to be a Bolivian national, was well known at the Hercules pub where the community is organising a fundraising raffle to help pay for funeral costs.

In the meantime, police hope witnesses may have memories triggered by seeing the CCTV still of Mr Rivero in the street on the day he died.

Senior Islington officer, Superintendent Annmarie Cowley, said: “I know this death will cause shock and very real concern in Holloway and the wider Islington area.

“There are additional police patrols in the local area.

“I urge local people to speak with these officers if you have any information or any concerns.”

Islington North MP Jeremy Corbyn said he was “deeply shocked and appalled by this horrendous incident which has shaken our entire community”, while Islington Council leader Una O’Halloran gave her “heartfelt condolences”.

Police can also be contacted on 101 or you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 if you want to remain anonymous.
