Free sugar when we leave the EU

• TO quote Paul Lasok: “The UK will be backing out of trade arrangements that it currently has with them (the Commonwealth) and replacing those arrangements with tariff barriers that currently don’t exist”, (Post-Brexit trade deals will put the squeeze on developing countries, May 4).

Current EU tariff on sugar cane imported from Commonwealth countries: £339 per tonne (34p per kilo), which can be reduced to zero when we leave.
