THE Union Chapel is fundraising this week to improve access to the arts for vulnerable community members.
It is hoping to raise £20,000 for its Art for Social Justice programme which aims to reach people who are disproportionately isolated from the arts.
Until March 26 donations made to the Union Chapel through the Big Give website will receive match funding, meaning every donation is effectively doubled at no extra cost.
Amanuel Woldesus, head of the Margins Project – the charitable arm of Union Chapel – said: “We need to look after our most vulnerable. Union Chapel is not just a venue; it is the centre of the hub. It is a community organisation. It is a space of belonging.”
The venue’s art for social justice programme provides opportunities for Islington residents to be taught by high-profile artists and co-create their own performances. It has so far raised almost £8,000.
