A POPULAR music pub in Angel was forced to evacuate on Wednesday night after a gas leak in the road outside.
The Lexington in Pentonville Road had to shut just half an hour before Jenny Don’t and the Spurs – a “country cowpunk” band from the US on the London leg of its international tour – were due to play.
The musicians were evacuated in the middle of their soundcheck and a cordon was set up around the venue for seven hours.
But the show must go on, and so it did – at the Water Rats, 10 minutes down the road in King’s Cross.
“This is the thing about small grassroots community organisations, we can adapt quickly,” Marcus Harris, who works at The Lexington, told the Tribune.
The venue has now reopened.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “The brigade was called at 7.03pm and the incident was over for firefighters by 1.40am.”
