HIGHBURY Fields will be given over to wheelers and walkers on Sunday to mark World Car Free Day.
The park itself will host the “Saddle and Sole” festival of walking and cycling, which includes free bike maintenance, all-ability cycling, guided cycles and walks around Islington, and static bike challenges where the energy generated by participants’ pedalling helps power the music.

Adjacent streets Fieldway Crescent and Highbury Terrace are also involved, and will be converted into pedestrianised “Play Streets” for several hours during different parts of the day for everyone to safely enjoy.
Islington Council’s environment chief Rowena Champion said: “In recent years, we’ve seen more people than ever walking, cycling, and wheeling in our borough, which helps to improve air quality, improve wellbeing, and bring people together.
“All the events we’re running this Sunday are completely free, and there’s no need to sign up in advance – so do get involved!”
