Give dogs half of Barnsbury Square Gardens
Friday, 3rd February 2017
• I AM heartily sickened by the sight of high posts/fencing and inappropriate planting and digging at Barnsbury Square Gardens.
The gardens are a disgrace, a quagmire of muck and shit from the dogs frequenting the area 24 hours of the day. Not to mention the barking of the same dogs. As for the suggestion of planting a meadow in the west side.
This will only give cover for the dog shit so it will not be cleaned up. As it is, the dogs use the bushes and as their mess is not removed it is a health hazard to even pass by the gardens. Since the garden on the corner of Hemming Road and Richmond Avenue banned dogs, the same dogs are now crowding our garden in the square. This has to stop.
Perhaps a temporary dog loo could be the answer or let dog owners use their own backyard or garden. They might then be forced to clean up the mess and return the gardens to a people’s park, as it was so designed, especially for the residents who live in flats and would appreciate an open space to exercise in and enjoy some fresh air and green surroundings.
The only temporary solution I can think of is to halve the gardens – one half for dogs and the other half for human beings. The council is charging enough council tax to be able to manage the square properly.
