Gospel Oak-Barking upgrade goes off the rails
Friday, 25th January 2019
• UPGRADES to the London Overground line from Gospel Oak to Barking have been a huge letdown for thousands who depend on this link daily.
Yet, commuter misery is not coming to an end as the promised hi-tech trains for the newly electrified tracks are still months away from being ready.
Adding insult to injury, Transport for London (TfL) has to give back the “stop-gap” trains it leased, because they have been booked for use elsewhere in the country.
The £5m TfL received in compensation from train company Bombardier must be used to keep services running for passengers. Relying on replacement buses is not an option.
It is vital that the Mayor of London and TfL get a grip on this situation. Investment in new track and trains is welcome, but it must deliver on the promised improvements in capacity, service and reliability.
