Greens won’t swallow unpalatable Brexit dish served up by Tories

• I AM glad that Patrick Edlin shares my concerns about the key issues facing voters in this election (Corbyn has to recognise a national desire to quit EU, May 5).

As a keen observer of my activities, he will be aware of my campaigning, as a councillor and London Assembly member, on poor working conditions, zero-hours contracts, filthy air and lack of workers’ rights.

The Green Party nationally is campaigning with radical and innovative proposals to solve the housing, NHS and education funding crises.

Where I differ from Mr Edlin and Jeremy Corbyn is that Brexit is not just a Conservative Party problem, it is a problem for all of us. And I am not telling voters that I or our country should simply roll over and meekly accept whatever the Tories manage to salvage from EU exit negotiations that are already going off the rails.

He may be ready to swallow that “unpalatable dish” but I am not. Nor are the people I am talking with on the doorsteps of Islington North, who don’t understand why Jeremy says that “Brexit has been settled”. It hasn’t.

The Green Party is offering people a vote on whether they agree with the terms of the final EU exit negotiation, with an option to stay
in, if they don’t like the deal the government secures. I therefore hope I can count on Mr Edlin’s vote on June 8.
