THE MOVE: Channel One Sound System BBQ. Saturday July 11. Camden Courtyard, Electric Ballroom, 2-7pm.
Few names carry as much weight in British sound system culture as Channel One. Established in 1979 by brothers Mikey Dread and Jah T, Channel One have spent nearly 50 years spreading dub and roots reggae music around the world, performing in countries ranging from Brazil to Australia to Turkey.

Channel One have also been a fixture at Notting Hill Carnival since 1983, where they draw massive crowds each year on Leamington Road Villas. This Saturday they bring their legendary rig to Camden Courtyard, just a minute away from Camden Town underground station. Expect an array of Caribbean food, plus six hours of strictly vinyl on one of London’s finest sound systems.

Starting at 2pm and finishing at 7pm, England fans have plenty of time to make kick-off for the crucial clash against Norway. Tickets range from £10-£20 on RA.

WORTH YOUR EARS: Sienna Spiro
At just 20 years old, London singer-songwriter Sienna Spiro is already one of Britain’s most exciting new artists.

After building a following of millions through viral TikTok videos, she began releasing music in 2024 and last year became a global star with the release of the single Die on This Hill. On July 3 she released her debut album, Visitor, a record built on live instrumentation and moving storytelling that showcases a powerful voice and has led some to draw comparisons between Spiro and Adele. Spiro, however, is only just getting started.

Her sold-out album launch at Dalston’s EartH on August  27t comes just before her worldwide My House Tour, where all 20 of her shows in North America are already sold out. If you haven’t checked out Spiro’s music yet, now’s the time to tap into London’s newest heroine.

• ON ROTATION: The Harder They Come (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack).
Tuesday marked 54 years since the release of one of the defining records in the history of reggae. Released on July 7 1972, The Harder They Come was the soundtrack to Perry Henzell’s landmark Jamaican crime film of the same name.

The record and the film introduced reggae to millions of listeners beyond Jamaica who had never heard anything like it. The album features tracks from the film’s star Jimmy Cliff, including the title track and You Can Get It If You Really Want, alongside classics including Pressure Drop by Toots and the Maytals and 007 (Shanty Town) by Desmond Dekker.

More than five decades on, both the film and soundtrack retain devoted followings worldwide. With Cliff having passed away late last year, it’s important The Harder They Come continues to be remembered and celebrated.
