ARSENAL will be hoping for a buoyant home crowd on Sunday when they host newly-promoted Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium.

Midfielder Lisa Baum scored on her Gunners debut at the weekend as the north Londoners kicked off the new Women’s Super League season with a 1-0 victory at Brighton.

Assessing the result in Sussex, Arsenal boss Renee Slegers said: “The win is most important, so we get the three points. We know how hard it is, the WSL opener. It can be quite chaotic, hectic.

“We controlled the game well, specifically for spells in the first half. I also think we spent quite some time without the ball, which we want to minimise. It was an OK performance; I think there were highs and lows.

“We definitely can do more, and we want to do more and need to do more. But like I said, this being the opener, getting the win over the line and keeping a clean sheet, I’m happy with that.”
