A NEAR-PERFECT start to the season will see Arsenal go into 2022 boasting a four-point advantage over their nearest rivals in the FA Women’s Super League.
The Gunners have won eight and drawn one of their nine games in the top-flight going into the winter break. Brighton & Hove Albion were due to visit Meadow Park in Arsenal’s 10th game but the match was postponed on Sunday because of ongoing Covid-19 issues.
Chelsea, managed by former Parliament Hill School pupil Emma Hayes, are second in the league. They were meant to host London rivals West Ham on Sunday, but again the game was called off.
Tottenham did, however, manage to squeeze in one more outing before the break, beating Everton 1-0 at The Hive in Barnet. Jessica Naz’s superb effort into the top-right corner proved the difference as third-place Spurs moved within a point of Chelsea.
The action returns in spectacular fashion on Friday, January 7, when Chelsea entertain Tottenham, while Arsenal travel to Birmingham City on Sunday, January 9.
