AFTER winning his pro debut, welterweight Slavisa Gegic is already busy preparing for his next big bout.

But far from forgetting his roots, the 27-year-old is still putting in the rounds at Islington Boxing Club, where he carved out a glittering amateur career.

Slav, who is nicknamed the “Serbian Sledgehammer”, is sharing his experience in the ring with promising
junior boxers from the club in Upper Holloway.

He coaches Islington BC’s senior academy and recreational boxing classes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

“This club will always be close to my heart, it’s great to be here coaching Islington’s stars of tomorrow,” said Slav.

Slav out-pointed Senegalese southpaw opponent Matar Sambou 40-36 at the famous York Hall in Bethnal Green in his first professional fight last month.
