England football legend Les Ferdinand has joined the fight to save the pitches from redevelopment

• THAT was a great front-page splash you gave the EC1 Voices group in their battle with Islington Council over the plans to redevelop Finsbury Leisure Centre, (‘Sir Les’ joins the fight to save pitches, November 22).

I must say that I have wondered why they want to build a new surgery on the site in the first place. Whenever I go to the surgery in City Road I am the only one there, that is if they deign to see me in the first place.

Having footballer Les Ferdinand in the team is an ace but do they have a “plan b” up their sleeves to be on the safe side? I think they should.

I went to a couple of their meetings but came away less than convinced that they had a chance of success. But their presentation has improved quite a lot.

When it comes to opening a second front, all I can say is that if “Sir Les” can make it from Queens Park to Toffee Park then I’m quite sure that EC1 Voices’s Eva Guerra and her team can make it from Toffee Park to Queens Park. They can’t lose. Feel free to thank me. All it takes is effort.
