Healthy or hostile – streets are for everyone
Thursday, 20th July 2017
• LONDONERS are so often squeezed – for time and space. This is why I supported Hackney resident Brenda Puech’s “people’s parking bay”, a miniature garden in a parking space that gives passers-by a place to sit and rest under a parasol.
More than 700 delighted people signed the visitors’ book in support of her good idea. Brenda’s rest-stop makes a serious point about most space on London streets being given to motor vehicles.
Is your street healthy or hostile? Do you have places to stop and rest in the shade? Is it easy to get around with a buggy, on a bike, or for people with mobility difficulties?
I’m glad the Mayor of London put healthy streets in his transport strategy. They must be for all Londoners.
