Council leader, MP and Islington Mayor join fundraisers

VETERANS and cub scouts were in Angel Shopping Centre for the annual Islington Poppy Appeal, which last year raised more than £69,000 for the Royal British Legion charity.

Saturday’s fundraisers included nine-year-old Holloway Cub Mason Millett-Portsmouth, Royal Army Medical Corps veteran Gary Reynolds and Islington Veterans’ Association secretary Dennis Sharrocks.

They were joined by Islington Mayor Cllr Jason Jackson, council leader Una O’Halloran and local MP Emily Thornberry.

Last year’s poppy appeal raised over £69,000 to help veterans and their families.

David John Dade, who organises the Islington appeal, gave extra thanks to supporters from the Upper Street Fire Station, Farringdon tube station and the Shakespeare’s Head pub.

There will be a public Rememberance Day service at Islington Green on Sunday November 9.
