TWO much-loved Chapel Market stalwarts have been recognised for their years of dedication in an Islington-wide competition to crown the “Market Trader of the Year”.

Greengrocer David Twydell and paella master Adrian Serrano, both familiar faces up Chap, won the 2025 award.

Mr Twydell, who sells seasonal fruit and veg year round and Christmas trees during the festive season, said it was “lovely” to be voted for by so many “loyal and loving customers”.

“It means a lot and that’s why I enjoy doing what I do,” he added.

Mr Serrano also won Market Trader of the Year – for the third year running.

“It’s a really big appreciation from the people of Islington who keep choosing us again and again,” he said, adding that him and his team were “very happy”.

The victory gets both traders £250 off their stall rent.

The competition was open to traders licensed by Islington Council, including at Camden Passage, Chapel Market, Exmouth Market and Whitecross Street, as well as other locations across the borough.

Islington’s deputy leader Cllr Santiago Bell-Bradford said it is traders like Mr Twydell and Mr Serrano who make Islington’s markets “truly special”, adding: “Their passion, quality, and connection with customers show why markets matter – they bring people together and offer great value products, fresh produce, fantastic food, and a real sense of community.

“Huge congratulations to both winners – and thank you to all our traders who keep Islington’s markets thriving.”
