BEMUSED passengers just trying to take a train from Manchester to London on Monday had a bizarre experience when they reached Euston.

Those who were on the same train as Andy Burnham found they were greeted by a pack of reporters and photographers on the concourse, a group of well-wishers who wanted to cheer the so-called “King of the North” to the capital.

Mr Burnham eventually emerged and took a black cab to Westminster where he signed in as the new MP for Makerfield, after winning a parliamentary by-election last week. He later posed for a giant photo selfie with Labour MPs.
