Highbury Corner: Will new road layout hinder emergency services?

An artist’s impression of how the revamped Highbury Corner will look when finished
• I ATTENDED the Highbury East ward meeting at the town hall last Wednesday, convened by Councillor Caroline Russell, to discuss with Transport for London the proposals for the redevelopment of Highbury Corner, which include the closure of Corsica Street to motor vehicles.
I am completely against this, but I asked the TfL representative if emergency vehicles at least would be allowed access through Corsica Street under the new scheme. She was unable to answer my question.
I am astonished that this fundamental issue does not seem to have been thought through, and I suggest that TfL goes away and does its homework before going any further.
The current works at Highbury Corner have been lengthy and exhausting. We need time to adjust before going ahead with any more. We also need to know that they will be safe.
