Holloway is an area close to my heart

• I HAVE been selected as Labour’s candidate for the Holloway ward by-election on Thursday May 6.

For many years I have campaigned alongside our community on the issues which matter most to local people, including the Holloway Prison site development, stopping the closure of Caledonian Road tube station and saving the Ringcross Community Centre.

As the father of three young boys, keeping our community safe, especially our young people, will be my number one priority if elected.

Despite Tory government austerity, our Labour-run council and Labour Mayor of London have continued to make progress in the fight against knife crime.

However, I still believe that a lot more can and should be done going forward.

There is an evident fall in the overall statistics of knife crime-related deaths in our borough; but one victim of knife crime is one too many.

I am passionate about early prevention and youth safety work, which I look forward to working on with my Islington Labour colleagues.

Holloway is an area close to my heart and I am excited to work with Cllr Diarmaid Ward and the Islington Labour team to make it the best place to grow up and grow old in.
