Housing has to be seen on a London-wide basis

• I AGREE with all the bulleted points in the second half of Jenny Kassman’s letter but as an architect I focus on design issues, (The right to housing in the borough is important for local people, February 9).
I believe more housing should be provided where it can be built at an acceptable density and without damaging the social and environmental amenities of the existing housing. There is much more scope for doing that in the low-density outer boroughs than in Islington.
I see Ms Kassman represents Islington Homes for All, but I believe housing has to be seen on a London-wide basis, and that the GLA should be empowered to do that. There might then be scope for achieving much more significant quantities of desirable new housing.
