ENJOYING live music while getting your nails done is so luxurious as to be almost unheard of – unless you were in Crouch Hill last weekend, when the small parade of businesses played host to a roster of local musicians for the day.

Welsh singer-songwriter Harry Luke played in Woody’s Hill kebab shop, singer Annalie Wilson performed in Hannah Nails and Spa, and “mandolin minstrel” Jasper Squire lit up the Stapleton Tavern on Saturday for Crouch Hill Music Day, organised by the businesses themselves and supported by the council and Mayor of London.

Musician development and production company Safo Music Group – which has worked with the likes of Sam Smith and Wicked’s Cynthia Erivo as well as neighbouring community centre, Brickworks – was also involved in putting the programme together.

Founder Laurence Hobbs said: “It was a fun and wonderful day that worked for the businesses and gives some more recognition to this little-known part of the world. You pass it by if you don’t know it’s there.”

He added: “Seeing a guitarist in the kebab shop was the funniest – everybody absolutely loved it.”

The celebration of local musicians is a two-part affair that will also see a talent show at Brickworks in March.
