EVER since a beautiful historic water fountain was removed from Whittington Park in the late 1970s, the people and animals using it have been calling (or woofing) for a replacement.
And the 40-year dream to install a new fountain will finally be a reality after Islington Council pledged to match the money raised
at this weekend’s fifth Dog Olympix at the park.

What the fountain will look like
Sunnie De Pass, organiser of the event and fundraiser in chief for a new fountain, said it had raised just over £3,000 and that the Whittington Parks management team had recently told her the community fundraising group had succeeded in securing the fountain – which could even be installed this year.
She said: “We’ve been asking for a fountain ever since I’ve been in the neighbourhood and before that. So six years ago we said we’d raise the money ourselves and we got the community together and because I’m a dog trainer in the area we said let’s do a
dog show.
“We’ve been asking for a replacement because as there’s always lots going on the park.”
This year’s Dog Olympix is this Sunday from 11.30am-3.30pm.
There will be face painting and balloons as well as a series of competitive dog events including Gundog, helter skelter and agility.
