I plan to lend my vote to Jeremy Corbyn

‘If he stands in the general election Jeremy Corbyn will get my vote for the first time’
• IN 40 years I have never voted for Jeremy Corbyn!
I moved to Highbury in 1983, after the election when Jeremy first became the MP. Since 1987, when the Green Party first stood here, I have consistently voted Green. I would, though, have voted Labour had there seemed any chance of the Tories winning here.
At the next election, in 2023 or 2024, I shall vote for Jeremy Corbyn, if he stands, probably even if for Labour, certainly if as an independent.
Two reasons: first, it is wrong for the Labour Party at national level to seek to dictate to Labour voters in Islington North whom they should elect as their Labour MP.
Second, and more important, I see a Labour Party that puts appealing to swing voters – “Workington man”, “Stevenage woman”, or whoever, above achieving the shift in wealth and power from business owners to people at large that the party came into being to deliver.
I still place care for the natural environment above all other issues; if the Green Party seemed in with a chance to win I would think differently; there’s much about which I disagree with Jeremy Corbyn; but as things stand, at the coming general election, when Islington North may be a marginal seat between him and official Labour, I plan to lend my vote to Jeremy Corbyn.
Sorry Greens!
