I want Brexit buried with its mouth stuffed with garlic and a stake through its heart

• I NEVER thought I would write this, but I agree with Stephen Southam that we should not have another referendum on Brexit, although I think leaving the EU is insane, (It’s nonsense to call for another People’s Vote, August 3).
In 2016, Leave won by a narrow majority. Opinion polling now suggests a close result in a further referendum, leaving the country as divided as it is now. I want Brexit buried with its mouth stuffed with garlic and a stake through its heart, which will only happen when we have had a car-crash Brexit.
Vote Leave attracted every racist, xenophobe, climate change denier and misogynist in the country in the way a dog turd attracts flies, but most Leave voters were people with real grievances, persuaded by the commodity brokers and hedge fund managers behind Vote Leave that the EU was the cause of their troubles.
Such people only learn through pain. If the predictions I have read are correct the Leave-voting areas will suffer the most pain from any Brexit. We are in for a few unpleasant years, but if they discredit the leavers for good it will have been worth it.
