If a value is put on trees, think of the difference that would make

• WHAT if the Mayor of London put a value on each of London’s street trees, like the City of Melbourne has on its trees?

Using the tree valuation fact sheet at www.melbourne.vic.gov.au I worked out that just one of the three condemned trees in Highbury Quadrant is worth about £48,000.

Just imagine what might happen – or not happen – if Islington Council had to pay the London mayor £48,000 every time a mature, much-loved, tree got in their way.
