Is a takeover of caretaking services what they want?

Friday, 30th April 2021

• CAN Islington Council and the cleansing department either confirm or deny that the cleansing department want to take over the role of the caretaking service on our estates in the borough?

If this is the case then I would strongly advise them “hands off’ because we, the tenants, and residents will not allow this to happen.

Upon checking out the word “caretaker” I find that it states that this is a person employed to look after a building; and that a “road sweeper”, is a person who sweeps roads, and that the two are separate identities, and that they both do their very best to maintain standards on the estates and on the roads, subject to councillors’ and managers’ interference.

If this is confirmed – that the London Borough of Islington just want to hand over this important role of the caretaking service then we, as tenants, should be made aware of this so that we can fight this potentially disastrous decision on the future of our caretaking services.
