Scott Smart and Chris Cunningham

TWO fighters from Islington Boxing Club were celebrating in the capital’s colours after playing their part in a comprehensive win over a team from the Netherlands.

Scott Smart and Chris Cunningham both saw their arms raised in victory after stepping between the ropes to represent London Boxing in a match against Van T Hof Boxing Club.

Held in Rotterdam, Smart started off slowly against Simon Pormes in a testing 56kg bout, but he found his reach and rhythm and went on to secure a unanimous decision with a performance that later earned him the Boxer of the Night Award.

Meanwhile fighting at 75kg, Cunningham outworked Rotterdam’s Kevin Setoe throughout his debut contest for London as he also claimed a unanimous victory to get back to winning ways after his recent defeat in the London Intermediate Championships.

In the end London defeated the Dutch club 7-0, although each and every one of the bouts were competitive.
