A MAN has been arrested in Islington in connection with the Westminster Honeytrap scandal.
Police said he had been detained on suspicion of harassment and offences under the Online Safety Act.
The man in his 20s, widely reported to have been a member of the Labour Party, has been released on bail as the investigation continues.
It was revealed earlier this year that at least 20 men connected with politics had received WhatsApp messages from somebody called either “Abi” or “Charlie”.
The messages were flirtatious and, in some instances, resulted in the exchange of explicit pictures. In April, then-Conservative MP William Wragg was forced to resign the whip after admitting he had shared MPs’ phone numbers with a suspected “honey trapper”.
A Met Police spokesperson said the arrested man has “been bailed until a date in late September”, adding: “The investigation remains ongoing.”
