Jewish Festival at Highbury Fields

Crowds enjoy the Jewish Festival at Highbury Fields

• AS a Jewish person living in Islington I was so excited to find out about, and go to, the first Islington Jewish festival, which was held on Sunday at Highbury Fields.

Klezmer band Tantz were amazing, and the speakers’ corner, Jewish food, candle-making and kids activities were all fantastic. It was very kind of Councillor Richard Watts and Mayor of Islington Una O’Halloran to join the festival and support the event.

The history of Jewish people in Islington goes back more than 250 years, to the 1730s, as Petra Laidlaw traced in her book Jewish Communities of Islington. This was a great fun event which I hope becomes a yearly feature. Thank-you to all those who organised it.
