Islington’s rubbish collectors need to be told when they are in the wrong

• I HAVE not got a big green rubbish bin; they are too large and unwieldy for a bockety old woman like me.

So I put my recycling in a white plastic sack and my general waste in a black plastic sack and, to stop the neighbouring foxes from waging war on my potato peelings, I put the black sack into the small green recycling bin supplied by the council.

It is all very obvious what’s what and this system worked very well up till now. Last week someone on the collection gang decided it was OK to take the black bag, rip it open and then dump it in the road beside my gate. They didn’t even put it back into the bin.

I reported this to the council and I asked them to have a word with the refuse collection team. Instead I got a lecture on how to use a rubbish bin which I haven’t got.

Is it so difficult to try to stop this happening again rather than resorting to defensive lectures on how to use a bin?

In what universe is it acceptable to dump open garbage sacks in the streets? If I did it myself I could look forward to being fined.

My local streets, Monnery Road and Pemberton Terrace, are often an eyesore with rubbish strewn the length of each. I am doing my best to not add to this.

Take some responsibility Islington Council. Your collectors need to be told when they are in the wrong.
