At 1.08pm out of Baalbec Road onto Highbury Grove; at 1.18pm made it to bus stop opposite Highbury Grove school

Edited copy of a letter sent to Islington Council

• AS a resident of the Highbury Fields LTN, I would like to object to the people-friendly streets scheme on the grounds that it is causing dangerous traffic jams, and I would like this email to be recorded as an objection.

The pictures (above and below) show the progress of a journey I made by car today [May 6], from my home on Liberia Road to Canonbury Lane, where I was delivering a large piece of garden equipment.

This short journey took nearly an hour-and-a-half. Setting off at 1.05pm, I finally reached my destination at 2.24pm. The traffic was gridlocked throughout, and since it was going to take me as long again to get home, I left the car elsewhere and walked back.

At 1.43pm turned onto St Paul’s Road; and at 2.13pm – approaching Highbury Corner

I later found out that the delays were due to a burst water main on Holloway Road, but the situation would have so much easier if there were no LTNs, and drivers could choose an alternative route. My journey felt like being stuck on the M25.

Apart from the wasted time, money, and energy, and the increased pollution caused by idling vehicles, the situation created by the LTNs is like an aneurysm, which one day will haemorrhage disastrously.

There was no space for emergency vehicles to pass through… and the traffic was backed up over the whole borough. Our traffic needs to be able to flow easily around the borough and drivers need to be able to choose alternative routes.

Please stop this LTN nonsense now.
