• TO cast the unfortunate citizens of Greece as characters in Up Pompeii shows callous disregard for their situation as hostages to the euro, (If the euro is such a bad thing why have so many countries joined? October 26).

Nevertheless Pompeii, being a city in Italy, is apt since that country is the next on the list to suffer in the cause of defending Brussel’s idea of a currency.

No need to be an expert when it is clear that the euro is failing. Either move to political, fiscal and banking union together with debt mutualisation or break it up.
