AN Islington venue has been crowned London’s top dog-friendly pub as part of a country-wide search for the best pubs for pups and their owners.

Pop into the Foxglove in Liverpool Road and more likely than not you will find a smattering of dogs relaxing inside and out, and enjoying the atmosphere – almost as much as the humans drinking around them.

Now the pub’s dog-friendly credentials have been made official, after the Foxglove was declared the capital’s most pro-pooch pub.

The dog-sitting app behind the awards, Rover, searched 110 venues across the UK and judged pubs on their “booking systems, pup accessibility, welcoming atmosphere, staff communication, doggie facilities, pet safety, dog behaviour policies and overall experience.”

The Foxglove’s owner Kimberley Daal said the pub has been dog-friendly since it opened, and even has a photo wall of its four-legged regulars to prove it.

Ms Daal told how the house dog Max and a huge hound named Diego are among some of the Foxglove’s best-known patrons.

“Whenever a dog walks past and refuses to go past and wants to go in, dragging its owner in, I feel like I’ve succeeded,” said Ms Daal.

“We’ve got treats on the bar,” she added.

“The bigger dogs will hop onto the bar and demand one, which is probably the highlight of my day.

“If you don’t like dogs, you’ve come to the wrong place.”

The Liverpool Road venue was until 2014 called the Hop and Berry, and later became restaurant Cured, until it was reverted back into a pub by the current owners in 2019.
