It’s not just ‘a few minutes’ added to car journeys

• YES I would like to walk around Islington but unfortunately I am disabled so I rely on my car.
One of your May 7 letter writers tells us how much he or she enjoys cycling. This person also adds that motorists are having to add “a few extra minutes on their journeys”!
It regularly takes 20 minutes for me to drive from where I live in Drayton Park, close to Benwell Road, to Holloway Road; largely because Benwell Road is closed to through-traffic, and every second car at the traffic lights is turning right.
Quite frequently no traffic moves when the lights change, as there is only space for one lane at the lights. Has anybody considered the idling cars in this section of the road, and the fumes they are emitting?
Likewise in Holloway Road, mostly congested and reduced to one lane. I feel so sorry for the people living here. More fumes for the pedestrians and residents. This the A1 main road to the north.
Last week it took 55 minutes to get to Waitrose and 45 minutes to get home.
