It’s ridiculous to suggest relocating schools

Conservative candidate Mick Collins, alongside council leader Richard Watts
• ARE Islington Conservative candidates auditioning for a sketch in a new Monty Python series? Or are they seriously proposing to relocate schools to avoid confronting the causes of pollution?, (We’ll shut school streets, April 20).
Is this an attempt to boost the construction and motor industries? Or is it yet another ploy to demoralise teachers and communities?
Will schoolchildren be expected to cross more junctions, will their parents and carers be encouraged to drive them to their new destinations or will their families be expected to relocate their homes? Whichever way one examines this proposal it is nothing short of ridiculous.
However, it wouldn’t be necessary to relocate any schools because if the Tory policies were adopted there would eventually be no teachers, key workers or any other sub-millionaires left in Islington.
This was evident at the hustings when Mick Collins rubbished the borough’s wishes to save the Holloway Prison site from falling into unfavourable hands, (Tories out of step over flats on prison site, April 20). He gave an unapologetic green light for relentless social cleansing.
Thankfully, the concept of a Tory victory in Islington is fictitious, but we must never assume that the Ministry of Justice is capable of putting long-term social justice before short-term profit.
