Jeremy and Boris in harmony?

Friday, 18th May 2018

• I NEVER thought I’d see Jeremy Corbyn sing from the same hymn book as Boris Johnson, William Rees Mogg and the rest of the Tory ultra Brexiteers.

He has repeated that Labour will not consider an arrangement within the European Economic Area (EEA). Like the Conservatives, it looks like Jeremy is quite prepared to sell the country down the river in search of some non-existent super deal with the European Union that allows us to call the shots and cherry pick the bits of the cake he wants. This is delusional and dangerous.

Theresa May’s government is floundering in the negotiations with EU and tearing themselves apart in front of our eyes. All the signs are that we are now heading for a collapse in the talks and an ensuing car crash Brexit. If they can’t at least resolve the Irish border question we can kiss goodbye to a transition period and frictionless trade. Time is running out.

It’s the job of the Opposition to oppose but here we have Jeremy giving “comfort to the enemy” by mirroring their thinking. On the other hand were Labour to at least consider developing our own arrangement within a flexible EEA they might find enough cross-party support in Parliament to derail this dangerously inept government and save us from the looming disaster.
