Keep your guard up for scam, say boxers
Archway-based club issues warning over bogus fundraisers

A BOXING club has warned that youngsters have been scamming people by pretending to fundraise for the club.
Islington Boxing Club, based in Archway, have sent out posts on Instagram, Facebook and X reminding the public that they never engage in street fundraising.
Millie Hagland, the club manager, said that this scam has now been happening for around 10 years, and is tried by different groups of teenagers each time.
Ms Hagland said: “Every time the weather picks up it starts happening again. We get warned and told by members of the public and so then the kids move along to a different area and try there.
“It’s really annoying because we’ve literally seen them on Holloway Road before getting money off old ladies with clipboards with our logos on.
“We consistently report it to the police, but because they’re kids and usually under 18 we get told that there’s nothing that they can do about it.”
The club reminds the public not to donate money if they do see anybody using their logo fundraising in public.
