PARENTS rushed to the nearest water source they could find to cool their children as temperatures soared yesterday (Thursday).

Temperatures in Islington hovered around the 35 degree mark, not quite hitting the all-time UK high of 38.5 degrees celcius set in 2003.

Other parents took their children down to the water springs in Coal Drops Yard on the border with Camden. Rachel Roach took her three children, Esther, nine, Reuben, seven, and Grace, five, up from their home in Battersea to enjoy the springs. She said: “There isn’t anything quite like this in the south. They’re loving it.”
