A QUIET, leafy park seems an odd place for a fashion show.
But that didn’t seem to phase Burberry as they set up their huge green tent in the middle of Highbury Fields on Monday afternoon.
The event was part of London Fashion Week, which shut down Highbury Place much to the consternation of some onlookers.

Tensions were eased when a litany of celebrities began pouring out of the show – Kylie Minogue, Bukayo Saka, Jodie Comer, Jason Statham and Burna Boy were among the most famous faces that made an appearance.

As the A-listers pushed through the crowds to hop into their flashy SUVs with tinted windows, onlookers Rachey Brown and Ugochukwu Faith told the Tribune that they were models who worked between London and Nigeria, and had come to see what Burberry had to offer.

“A show like this is something I would love to do,” said Ms Faith. “I want to work for big designers, I think that’s one of the ways you get big publicity. Walking for Burberry would be one of my dream shows.”

She added: “I got scouted in a church. I had already talked about modelling, but my parents weren’t interested in it. When I was scouted, this lady came up to me and I was surprised, and I was like ‘man, I need to do this’.

“It’s very competitive. It’s a lot of pressure, and there are a lot of nos. But, if you stay focused and determined you can get there.”
Ms Brown was scouted while she was walking to a market, but her true love is outside of modelling.
“I’ve always wanted to be a fashion designer, and I am – I made what I’m wearing,” she said. “But I was told that I could do modelling as well and it would be easier to transition into being a designer, so I thought ‘sounds like fun, so why not?’.”

Neither were wowed by Burberry’s creative director Daniel Lee’s first collection which was sported on the runway and serves as the label’s spring 2024 collection.
The designs included Lee’s take on the brand’s trademark trench coat, which has been praised by critics.
Bukayo Saka
The two said the A-listers were of little interest to them. “The only people that made me scream were the two Nigerian celebrities, Burna Boy and WizKid,” said Ms Brown.
This view was not shared by the rest of the crowd, who let off screams at the sight of famous faces.
The borough’s own Naomi Ackie posed for photos with fans as she made her way home.
The I Wanna Dance With Somebody actor did her A-levels in City and Islington College, and her picture was featured in the Tribune’s results day picture spread.
