Labour indecisive over EU
Friday, 11th May 2018
• ONE of Labour’s major weaknesses is its policy towards the EU. Instead of coming down decisively on the side of the majority who voted to leave the EU, Labour is seen as indecisive, trying to keep one foot in the EU.
In large areas of the country many people, particularly in working-class communities, voted in the local elections for the Tories, who are seen to be serious about Brexit.
Another factor which held Labour back was the charge of anti-Semitism from opponents, not only Tories but also within the party’s ranks, including conservative, self-appointed Jewish leaders who hate Jeremy Corbyn’s support of the Palestinians and his justified criticism of Israel’s right-wing government.
Thank goodness for the Jewish Socialist Group and others who have supported the Palestinians. Anti-Semitism is not confined to Labour. It exists in other political parties, especially the Tory Party. Where was the response to that?
