Praful Nargund

Praful Nargund, Labour’s candidate for Islington North

• AS previous letters and articles in the Islington Tribune have noted, Praful Nargund, Labour’s candidate for Islington North, continues to avoid challenging questions about his political values and business interests.

He has declined to be interviewed, to write articles, or appear at hustings on the environment, housing and most notably health.

Rather than face public scrutiny about health care Nargund has chosen to talk to managers at Whittington Hospital and then release a bland promotion video. He says he will “fight for our Whittington Hospital” but he has not participated in any of our campaigns to date.

Unlike Jeremy Corbyn, Nargund has no record of defending public ownership of the National Health Service, nor has he been seen talking to cleaners, patients, nurses, and junior doctors.

Instead, as CEO of a private health care provider, he has promoted privatisation.

Nargund has shallow roots in the constituency and was undemocratically imposed as a Labour candidate.

We see no Labour campaigners writing in to defend their candidate. Labour is relying on people voting out of habit. A cynical and undemocratic politics.
