• LABOUR’S half-baked proposal for a voluntary supplement on council tax corrupts and under­mines the very principle of taxation, (Labour plans optional extra council tax, March 30).

That it has seen the light of day is evidence Labour needs constructive opposition inside the council chamber, not just, as Cllr Richard Watts has asserted, “from community groups” outside. Only the Green Party stands a realistic chance of providing it.
