A WHITE Christmas seemed within reach this week as a pristine blanket of snow transformed the familiar streets of north London into a magical wintry paradise.

But as freezing temperatures bit the borough, not everyone had a warm home to return to after trudging through the snow.

For many in Islington, the cold snap has permeated inside, too, and some will be waking up able to see their own breath in the air.

In a borough defined by stark economic inequality, some families will be celebrating Christmas with all the bells and whistles while just down the road their neighbours make do with what they can from the food bank.

We believe Christmas should be a special time for everyone, no matter their income. That’s why we’re raising money to buy hampers full of festive treats for those who need a bit of cheering up.

There are just a few days to go if you want to help the Tribune bring some Christmas cheer to the people in our borough who need it.

This has been an extremely difficult year for many and as increasing numbers begin to feel the pinch, the Tribune’s hamper appeal is more vital than ever.

As wages are squeezed and inflation spirals, it’s no longer just people on the breadline who can’t make ends meet.

There are just nine days to go before the big day but there’s still time to donate.  Find the donate button on our website. Thank you for your generous support.
