LDN COP: Join us at former cinema as Tribune hosts climate fest
Day-long conference will feature eight panel discussions
Friday, 30th October

The Tribune’s climate COP in Conway Hall in December 2022
IN FOUR weeks’ time, the former Odeon cinema in Camden Town will be getting ready to host a day-long climate conference organised by the Tribune and our sister title, the Camden New Journal.
Our event, the London COP, is named after the United Nations annual climate COP or “Conference of the Parties” – where the countries who signed the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change treaty back in 1992 meet to discuss how to combat the climate crisis.
Of course, our LDN COP won’t be full of international delegates hashing out treaties, but it is about getting all sorts of people together to share stories about and solutions to the climate crisis as it affects us here in Islington, Camden and across London.
That means talking about overheating in homes and classrooms, rogue landlords, fuel poverty, air pollution, migration, the cost of living crisis, where we get our food, green spaces and how we can make the government enact change.
There will be eight panel discussions throughout the day where local campaigners and residents will share the stage with MPs and academics.
Hampstead and Highgate MP Tulip Siddiq will speak about air pollution together with Rosamund Adoo-Kissi-Debrah, whose nine-year-old daughter, Ella, was the first person in the world to have air pollution listed as a cause of death on her death certificate.
Roger Hallam, founder of Extincton Rebellion, will speak about the future of climate protest, while Insulate Britain activist Cameron Ford will talk about the urgency of retrofitting Britain’s homes. More speakers will be announced over the coming weeks.
We will be showing four documentaries – including The People’s Emergency Briefing, a call to action for communities who want to do something about climate change but aren’t sure how to start.
And to top it all off, the old cinema foyer will have an eco market going on all day, with gifts, art, vintage clothes and cards, and print-making and letter-writing workshops to keep you busy.
We will also be holding a donation for the baby bank Little Village, and the Toy Project in Junction Road, so bring along those teddies and onesies that are waiting at the back of the cupboard.
The LDN COP is, like our newspapers, free, because everyone should be able to learn about how our world is changing and what we can do to save it. Come and see us in the old Odeon Cinema in Parkway on November 28, between 11am and 6pm.
