A two-minute silence was held yesterday (Thursday) on the steps of the Town Hall to mark Armistice Day

VETERANS gathered outside the Town Hall yesterday (Thursday) to mark Armistice Day – the anniversary of the day the First World War ended.

They joined the national two-minute silence to remember those who have been lost in wars, as council dignitaries laid wreaths in Upper Street.

Residents are being welcomed to join the Remembrance parade this Sunday – from Highbury Fields to a service at Islington Memorial Green. It begins at 10.40am and includes a moment of silent reflection at 11am.

Two other Remembrance Sunday events are also open to all. One is at Spa Green Garden, Finsbury, with the service starting at noon.

Residents are invited to assemble near the war memorial, at the corner of Roseberry Avenue and Gloucester Way.

There will also be a Remembrance community event in the Royal Northern Gardens, Manor Gardens, at 1.30pm.
