Let MPs go to the country
Friday, 8th February 2019
• PLANS are being readied to take the royal family away from London should there be a no-deal Brexit. It’s unimaginable that the Queen would do anything other than follow the example of her parents in 1940 and remain (sorry) in the capital.
Easier to imagine is Parliament, having derived its powers from the Queen-in-Parliament, considering itself of such importance as to justify evacuating in the best interests of the country: Roundheads all.
How good would that be? Parliamentarians and camp followers perambulating around the country like a Tudor monarch. Stopping wherever the fancy took and eating their hapless host out of house and home, ruining the hunting, imposing witless jesters – insert the name of your favourite MP – then moving on.
You just can’t do enough for the 498 who voted for Article 50 and were fully prepared for a hard Brexit just so long as they could find a place of safety should that have to be faced.
