Boat Club

‘Islington Boat Club is clearly is a very important organisation’

• THE Islington Boat Club is clearly is a very important organisation, providing rowing and canoeing training to children in the borough which they would not be able to access otherwise, (‘Save Our Boat Club!’ appeal as it’s ordered to quit canalside site, November 18).

A friend’s daughter has worked there for some time and is now a qualified instructor. It has been really important to her and taking this facility away will leave her with nowhere to use her skills.

I appreciate that there may be issues with the building. Surely this was ultimately the responsibility of the landlord, Islington Council, and the recent closing of the building is in order to let developers take over the site rather than because of any real risk to users.

So I hope that the council will reconsider and allow the boat club to stay at their current venue as there is nowhere else they can operate. The council’s decision was short-sighted.

Take a look at the state of Old Street now and maybe not everywhere should end up as a high-rise horror instead of an environmentally-friendly activity centre.
